The dirt road leading out to the ground maintenance corrals was lined on both sides by tall white pine trees. Dillan pulled his truck under the car port. He climbed out of the driver’s seat and stood for a minute looking out at the airport runways in the distance. He checked the sky for any signs of bad weather, then walked around to the bed of the truck to retrieve a toolbox and a cardboard box, which he opened. He laid out wrenches and screwdrivers on a work bench. Then turned his attention to the red Ford Ranger. Just as he popped open the hood, Paul pulled up in the driveway.

“Where’s the beer?”

“In the cooler in the back. Help yourself.”

“Hang on, I gotta take a leak.” Paul stepped into the thicket, outside of the dirt parking area, and noticed a shiny object on the ground. He bent to retrieve it. It was a coin. After brushing it off, he could see that it was gold in color with something on it that looked like a praying mantis or a boat with oars. He flipped it over and saw the number one. He slipped it into his pocket.

“Hey man, where’s the beer?” asked Paul.

“I told you, it’s in the back of the truck. Are you stoned or something?”

“Yes, I am,” said Paul. He bent over the cooler. “Hey, why’d you get Budweiser again? I wanted Miller.”

“You didn’t tell me you wanted Miller. Do you want a beer or not?”

“Alright, hey I just found this,” Paul took the coin out of his pocket and showed it to Dillan.

“Looks foreign for sure.” Dillan took out a rag and poured some beer on it to clean it. “It’s from Israel, huh.”

“How do you know it’s from Israel?”

“Because it says it right next to that picture of the little candle thing.” Dillan handed it back to his roommate. “Here. Now drink your beer and then you can take this bag over to the trash can for me.”

Just then Cameron’s truck pulled into the clearing blaring Love Stinks from the radio. He parked next to Paul’s car and got out. “Hey, you guys, what’s new?

“This case a beer,” said Paul, now pulling a can out of the cooler in the back of the truck. “Hey, Man. What’s up?”

“Just stopped for a beer at the airport,” said Cameron.

Dillan was all ears. “Who’s working the bar today?”

“The college girl, Lynette.”

“I’d let her eat crackers in my bed,” said Paul.

“Can I have one of your beers?” asked Cameron.

“Sure. Paul, grab Cameron a beer.”

“That chick is hot,” said Paul.

“Are you asking her out?” asked Dillan.

“She’d never go out with me anyway,” said Paul.

“We got drunk together once,” said Cameron. He popped the top off his can. “And watched the sunrise at the river.”

“No way,” said Dillan. He was trying to hide his jealousy. “Did you get any?”

Cameron chuckled, “No, just being neighborly and friendly and all. I had to check her air conditioning unit.” Cameron took a swig from his beer.
